I had not been that nervous and excited about anything for years like I was waiting for my call. I had submitted my papers about three weeks ago and based on internal sources and thorough research I predicted that my call was going to arrive on Wednesday the 19th of March.
When Mum sent me pictures of an envelope addressed to Elder Joshua Manuel Gantner I almost skipped school. Is a presentation about the relationship among siblings really that important? It was important enough to make me stay in school but I couldn't wait until after dinner and youth activities to upon my call. I went home and Mum, on her way to the youth activity, dropped the call at the bus station so I'd have enough time to open it an still be on time for dinner in Zurich with friends of mine.
It was a beautiful day and the sun was already closing towards the mountain ridge surrounding the valley of Ägeri. I sat down on a bench below a tree right next to the lake. A golden avenue of sparkling light on the lake lead directly towards a beautiful sun setting behind my favorite mountain.
I wasn't the only one at the lake. A few people could see me from afar but the place was still perfect. I closed my eyes and offered a prayer to the Lord. I declared my personal conviction that a fulltime mission is the right thing to commit to, thanked him for the many blessings and opportunities awaiting me and asked him for two things. First I asked him to equip me with the strength so I could develop the discipline to live and fulfil the high standards expected of a missionary without exception. Second I asked him to help me accept his call to serve no matter when and where.
I cant tell how long the prayer lasted and it doesn't really matter anyway. After sometime the nervousness and the excitement were gone and I felt peace and quiet.
I knew that when I was going to open this call it would tell me the perfect place for me to serve the lord and to contribute to his work with everything I have. I have never opened an envelope so carefully and slowly but eventually it was open completely and I was holding my call. I started over 5 times until my made it to the end but both my mind and my heart knew with absolute certainty that the Spain-Mission Malaga is where the Lord our Redeemer wants me to be.
Of course my family had the legitimate wish to be the first ones to hear the news and since Dad was in Chicago we all met at 21:45. Dad joined us through Skype and Alex & Bugiii where with us as well. I started to read the call out loud and didn't even get to finish "Spain-Mission Malaga". After "Spain" they already started cheering and congratulating me.
I want to close this post with my testimony. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for all our sins. I am incredibly grateful for the perspective and purpose the plan of salvation gives me and I am very excited to share this joyful message of hope with the people in Spain. I know that the Lord is already with me and as Alma promised I have helping and guiding angels around me all the time. I can assure you that he loves you and every single one of his children unconditionally. He knows us better than we can every imagine. He knows what we need and he can give us what we kneed. All we need to do is ask for his help and trust him.
